Day 6 - 60's bliss!

wearing a beautiful vintage Courrèges dress and it inspired me to create a 60’s Mod look. I love the styles of the 60’s and I think that A-line dresses are very flattering. Unfortunately, I can’t afford a Courrèges piece, but I remembered I had bought an A-line dress ages ago from a very hip shop in Athens, called “Acrobat” (I don’t think that shop exists anymore).
I wore the dress with a pair of patent open-toe pumps and I tied a lime green scarf around my tiny ponytail, just to add some color to the whole black and white look.
Make up wise, I used a white eyeshadow on the lid and a dark grey on the crease with a winged eyeliner. Black eyeshadow on the lower lashline and white eyeliner at the waterline. Several coats of black mascara and a light pink lipgloss (with no shimmer or glitter). Overall it had a 60’s feel, without being totally retro.

Day 5 - Baby boom!!!

Don’t be alarmed, I’m not having a baby! The only babies I have are two adorable fur-balls named Chewy and Loulou!
My cousin Iro had her first baby (a girl) 3 days ago, and I went to visit both of them at the hospital yesterday. My cousin was very happy, but also terrified because she had no idea what to do with her newborn. She was constantly afraid that she might do something wrong and hurt her baby, and I guess that’s normal for a new mom, isn’t it? I am sure I would be terrified too. I know almost everything there is to know about cats, but I don’t have the slightest clue about babies!
Anyway, my outfit consisted of a pair of trousers and a top and I accessorized it with a lovely vintage scarf my mom gave me and a beautiful Marc Jacobs bracelet that I got as a gift on my birthday (on the 30th of March).
My make up was rather simple, just a grey eyeshadow with a black eyeliner and a teal eyeliner on the bottom lash line to match my nail polish (which is Illamasqua “Muse” and Zoya “Casey” at the tip of the nails).

Day 4 - Queen for a day (or night)!

This outfit is from Sunday night, when I went out for an early drink (or glass of juice I might say, because I never drink alcohol). I wore shorts again (I have been obsessed with shorts this summer!) and it wasn’t until I got to the bar when I realized it was quite chilly outside. Luckily it wasn’t a summer bar so I wasn’t very cold.
The top is from New Look and I got it this summer. I love embellishments in almost everything: tops, bags, shoes. It adds a certain something that can make even the most plain tank top seem special.
My make up was pink and black eyeshadow and pink lips. I usually do my make up according to the outfit. So, if I wear a “ladylike” outfit, I like to do a 50’s style make up. Or if it’s “rock chick” style outfit, I will do a more edgy smokey eye and nude lip and so on. Well, that’s how I like it!

Day 3 - Pretty in pink (shorts)!

Yesterday I had lunch with my parents at an italian restaurant in Athens. Next to the restaurant there is a very small park (pea size!) and it was the perfect background for my blog pics. I love taking pictures outdoors but it’s not always easy to do, unless you are with someone who is able to take some decent pictures. It was a cloudy day and the weather was not great, but I could still wear my shorts and not feel cold, at least during the day.
I didn’t feel like putting a lot of make up on, so I kept it natural and simple.

Day 2 - "taratsa" partying!!!

Last night I went to a “Taratsa party” (taratsa is greek for terrace) and I needed a bit of glamour but not too much, since it was not a formal party. I wore a dress with sequins over the bust and paired it with some gold wedges I got this summer.
Although the weather is still nice here in the morning and noon, at night it gets a bit chilly. And as the party was held at a terrace, I took a light pink pashmina with me, just in case. I’m glad I did, because not only was it chilly, it started to rain too!!! Luckily the rain lasted about 5 minutes or so, just enough to add a little suspense to the party.
When I got there I realized that there was a theme. They called the terrace “Love boat” and I wish I had been more careful when I got the invitation, cause I could have put together a navy or pin-up style outfit. But anyway, not that many guests were dressed accordingly, so my outfit was more than ok for the party.
I did have a pin-up style make up though! I did a winged eyeliner with gold eyeshadow (pigment) to match my dress, and orangey-red lips.
I kept the accessories simple because I didn’t want to overload the outfit. I already had sequins on!

Day 1 - 80’s inspired look!

The game is afoot! This is the first post for the project and it’s about the outfit I wore last night, to go out with some friends. The dress is brand-new, I got it this summer from Desire clothing and the shoes are Comme il Faut, a brand from Buenos Aires that makes tango shoes. I bought these a year ago for the milongas (places where you dance to tango argentino) and they are very comfy and glamorous too. The designs are beautiful and different for every size. They are not like the typical dance shoes that you cannot wear outside the dance floor, so they're like a pair of evening shoes. They don’t come cheap, but it’s a good investment (at least that’s my excuse!).
The long sliver earrings together with the dress (with the padded shoulders and all) create an 80’s feel, which I like.
Make up wise, I did a classic smokey eye with silver and grey-black, and added a purple eyeliner on the bottom lash line to make it more bright and summery.

My 365 days project: Fashion and Make up posts everyday for a year!

Hello lovelies! Remember me? I used to have a blog and I used to post every once in a while, but then the aliens kidnapped me and I couldn’t possibly post anything from the spaceship could I?!
Ok, I’ll cut the crap and get to the point! I saw a movie the other day that had a great impact on me. Julie and Julia with Meryl Strip, have you seen it? Well, it’s based on two true stories. It combines the story of Julia Child and how she became a famous chef and author and the story of Julie Powell, who in her 30’s decides to cook her way through Julia Child’s book about French cuisine and blog about it (524 recipes in 365 days). The movie was great and Meryl Strip was amazing as always, but there was something more to it for me. It gave me a great idea about my blog. You know, I am kind of like the girl in the movie who finds herself being bored easily and never finishing what she starts. So I thought that I could try to do something similar. I am not going to cook french recipes for 365 days, no no! Don’t get me wrong I love cooking but this is a blog about make up and fashion and those are my passions.
So I came up with an idea: I am going to post everyday for 365 days about what I wear and what my make up is. Something like an OOTD and FOTD combined, but every day for a whole year.
I always need something to motivate me and this is perfect. Because putting it out there makes it important and serious and I will feel embarrassed if I don’t go through with it.
So, the rules are:
I will be posting every day for 365 days. There will be pictures of the outfit and pictures of the make up and listing of the clothes and products used for the specific look.
My looks will consist of:
Casual/morning looks
Evening/dramatic looks
Formal/business looks
Seasonal looks (beach outfits or mountain - excursion outfits etc)
Retro/vintage looks,
depending on my mood or my routine. Sometimes it’s going to be the look that I wore at a party, sometimes a look that I wore at the supermarket or maybe a look just for the sake of the project (in days that I have nowhere to go).
This project starts today, the 4th of September 2010, and it will end next year (4/9/2011). There will be another post today, the first post of the project.
I hope it will go as planned and that you will like it. Tell me what you think and give me any other ideas if you have about this.
My first pics are not so great, but I promise they will improve. I will be continuously experimenting with lighting and backgrounds and camera settings so as to achieve the best result possible.
