Day 12 - Black and Brown!

Today I had a business lunch so I chose a smart - office style - outfit. I mixed black with brown, something that used to be amongst the “fashion faux pas”! To be honest I always liked wearing black with brown. I think that rules are meant to be broken and if you have some sense of style, you immediately know if something looks good or bad. Of course there are people that have an amazing sense of what goes with what, like Patricia Field for example. The outfits in SATC or in “The Devil wears Prada” were out of this world. She manages to combine clothes and accessories in ways I could never imagine!
As far as my make up is concerned, I kept it rather simple. And here is a tip for a quick, morning look: you apply a neutral e/s on the lid (it can be light brown, taupe, beige, something not very dark or glittery) and with a black or brown eyeliner pencil you draw outwards a small line at the outer part of the lash line (hope I’m making sense here!). It doesn’t have to be neat, because you will then take a small smudge brush and smudge that line so it will blend with the other color (blend outwards). Add some mascara and you’re done! This way the eyes are much more defined without wearing too much make up. If you have any questions about this or any other make up related subject, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Well, here’s today’s outfit: (note: I ironed my skirt before wearing it, but you know how linen gets after you ...just wear it!)

Shirt: Zara
Skirt: Zara
Belt: vintage
Shoes: H&M
Watch: vintage
Earrings: random accessories shop

Face: Korres watermelon oil free tinted moisturiser SPF 30, Mac select cover up concealer, Mac mineralize skin finish
Eyes: Benefit e/s (soft shoulder), Korres black eyeliner pencil, Mac Zoom lash mascara
Cheeks: Elf contouring blush and bronzing powder
Lips: Mac lipstick (Jist), Seventeen ultra gloss no22 frosty

So, do you follow any of the fashion rules?

  3. I dont'follow any rules. When black was in fashion, I wore multi-colored clothes (I'm a little bit eccentric). I agree about Field's style essence, though her concepts can stand out only in NYC, I think here in Greece we're much more concervative when it comes to mixing n'matching clothes & accessories. I loved the vintage belt in yr outfit :)

  4. @ Pink_Fish: You are right, we are a lot more conservative here. And I hate that because there's not any room for individuality. Most people dress like they are wearing uniforms. They are afraid to experiment! I would be interested to see your style though, you got me intrigued...
I love my belt too, it used to be my mom's. I got some nice pieces from her.

  5. if only I had kept some of my mom's items, she had some nice Hermes-like scarfs, nice 70's,80's bags. Unfortunately, many of these things were thrown out 7 years ago, when we all moved to a new appartment :) Seeing how big is vintage these days, I regret not having kept these little treasures. I like multicolored outfits, especially in accessories(scarfs, bags, shoes, hair pins and stuff)and-of course-make up. You have to be very careful when combining different patterns and textures (like Field did in SATC)and after having seeing each season of it like a trillion times I'm sure that each and every outfit in the series wasn't random at all. She had picked everything very careful, having in the back of her mind the city (NYC), the series feeling and each girl's personality

  6. I totally think you can wear black w brown, as long as there's another colour in the outfit, like your taupe skirt! ;) My choice is usually a beige or leopard scarf, that way it all comes together!
Fashion rules are meant to be broken! ;)

  7. @ tina_mbc: Oh, I love leopard scarves! And it's the safest way to add some animal print in your outfit. :)
